ABOUT ME

Emma Fleming has worked in the film and TV industry for 10+ years as a Casting Director, Costume Designer, Acting Coach + Artist Mentor in Melbourne, Sydney, Berlin, Italy. London and New York. She is a proud member of the Costume Designer’s Guild (Local 892) and the National Alliance of Acting Teachers. Currently based in Los Angeles, her most recent work includes Francis Galluppi's debut feature film THE LAST STOP IN YUMA COUNTY, which premiered at Fantastic Fest in September 2023. It went on to have its European premier at Sitges 56th Film Festival 2023, where it won Best Feature Film in the Orbita category. Other recent work includes the Kate Bosworth and Emile Hirsch thriller THE IMMACULATE ROOM, winning at Mammoth Film Festival 2022 for Best Film & Best Actor. DOWN HERE, directed by Omer Ben Shachar, won the 2023 Webby Award for Avant Garde short and was featured on Nowness, Film Shortage, Directors Notes, Directors Library and Vimeo Staff Pick and Short of the week, as well as the GG Hawkins feature debut ‘An Island’, Jennifer Massaux’s ‘Recall’ and ‘RATS!’, the feature debut from the creators of 2020’s ‘With Pleasure’. RATS premiered at Cucalorus Film Festival in November 2023. In 2017 Emma was nominated by the Casting Guild of Australia for the ‘Achievement in Casting Award’, specifically for her project ’Testament’ which placed a large emphasis on diversity + inclusivity. Her follow-up project ‘Matrimony’ was selected for screenings in both Melbourne and Los Angeles, her work was reviewed as being ‘Melbourne’s New Edge’. Her artistry as always been driven by a great need to shed light and share new perspectives on the LGBTQIA + experience, the female experience, social justice and youth culture. 

 

As well as casting and costume design in the independent film space, in 2020 she was appointed as Casting Director and Contributing Creative Producer for global publication ‘Schön Magazine’, which has since expanded to Schön China and Schön Switzerland. Here she is casts film/tv specific talent to feature in the magazine’s bi-annual print issues, alongside casting and producing Schön’s digital and short film commissions. Casting and production highlights with Schön include work with Alfonso Herrera, Sadie Sink, Letitia Wright, Jamie Campbell Bower, Lexi Underwood and, most recently, Krysten Ritter, Justice Smith, Leslie Odom Jnr, Halle Bailey, Louis Hofmann, Pom Klementieff and Anna Diop.

 

Alongside her film work, working under her alias ‘Alabama Blonde, she has worked as designer, stylist &/or art director for artists such as Korn, Charli XCX, Noah Cyrus, Machine Gun Kelly, Avenged Sevenfold, Saweetie, Tinashe, Lindsey Stirling, Tayla Parx, Jeffree Star Cosmetics & Kim Kardashian/Skims. Aside from Mammoth Film Festival, Sitges Film Festival, her work has been showcased at New York Fashion Week, Art Basel, Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion + Film Festival, Re-Evolution Berlin, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Midsumma Fringe Festival and the WOW museum in New Zealand & the World of Wearable Art Awards, where her has been nominated in the Avant Garde category.

 

Emma has trained in the Meisner technique for 20+ years and has taught the technique for over 10 years, having been certified as a teacher by Scott Trost, Executive Director of the Meisner Institute Los Angeles. Whilst her teaching work and philosophies are grounded in the principles and work of Meisner, she has also trained in Alexander Technique, Chekhov, Viewpoints and the work of Uta Hagen. She draws on her extensive training and experience in the film industry when coaching and mentoring artists. In 2023 she gained her certification as a Master Practitioner of the ELI Assessment and is a sought after Performance Coach. Her mission as a teacher, facilitator and mentor is to empower young creatives to develop their unique talents and amplify their formidable voices. Emma strives to have each student she works with to feel truly seen, heard and valued, for the individual they are and everything they have to offer. They are the creative leaders of our future.
